Says Pool

'Says pool' stills

Moving image, January 2021

A macro lens, one orange and a blood capsule, 'Says Pool' (2021) is the lovechild of one deadline and weeks of quarantine.

During this period, I was living at my third-year house in Nottingham. I had luckily loaned out a camera, a couple of lenses, a projector and sound recorder beforehand meaning I could still create within the confines of a bedroom studio. 'Says Pool' was the first of 7 where the footage was created within my room.

The footage and sound produced for this piece are each repetitive; pieced together, looped and kept one consistent note through start to finish. It avoids the typical tension-building and instead becomes predictable. As an installation, it was digitally plastered onto the side of our neighbour’s home and at the odd exclusive bedroom party. Conceptually bereft yet weirdly psychedelic, 'Says Pool' stands for my found interest in visuals being used in recreational environments.
