​SHE IS AND YOU MUST AGREE! 'GORGEOUS' (2020) is direct in its nature, not so much in its transparency, but all the same, stunning visually and effectively.

 

My first love and experience with creating a digital installation, 'GORGEOUS' transcends the 2-dimensional using sound, projection and glossy red vinyl. Here I discovered the formula which creates the unsettling. A slippery, sultry, stuck-to-the-wall material beneath a red, green and pink projection, synchronized with a string-plucking sound piece.

 

The work has a forceful attitude of wanting to be perceived well. At first glance, it is a rosy kaleidoscope inhibiting the corner of a dark room. Visually engaging with a magnetic glow; similar to TV cosmetic ads, a subject I was interested in at the time.

 

I considered the true intention of these ads and their vast impact on women. Years and years of feeling incompetent and chasing youth, lining The Man’s pocket to reach the unattainable. I orchestrated the sound piece to represent such an idea. An unreachable string crescendo alluding to the sinister.
