See, Rub, Bleed

'See, Rub, Bleed' stills
Moving image, performance with sound, February 2021

The ultimate GRMW for mouldy fruit and pink painted flesh. 'See, Rub, Bleed' (2021) is both a tutorial and ASMR vid that is neither helpful nor sensational.

The footage used was created out of experimentation. One a view above rotten grapes and oranges, being stuffed with plastic crystals and the other a pink skinned, jewel encrusted face covered in blood, demonstrating some sort of skin care routine. Its audio component was created with a sensitive recorder and orange segments being ripped and torn. Each sound was matched to a physical movement in the video, creating a sense of discomfort for the hopeful-tutorial-watcher.

As an installation, the room’s panel lights were adjusted to blue while a plastic-jewel encrusted iPad sat on top of multiple extension cables played the tutorial. The choice of blue then reminded me of UV lights in tanning beds, furthering an idea centred around modern day cosmetics. The overuse of sticky gems implies the tutorial watcher's attention to detail - gems are IN!
