The Exorcist
A silent, unusually small projection cornered with cables, cling film and a plinth, 'The Exorcist' (2021) reflects on a personal endeavour of abortion through filmed performance.
Many elements of this work separates itself from the rest of my portfolio. The eeriness is carried solely through the physical performance. The camera angled facing upwards, I dangled myself above the lens and a glass dish with a mouthful of PVA glue and water.
Here I deliberately avoided using make up with this character, as it is my individual experience I was depicting. The scale and decision to not use sound readjusted my intention of this piece, usually being, to create an experience for the viewer. Yet 'The Exorcist' was only for the viewer to observe.
Albeit one of my darkest, 'The Exorcist' was the first time I created something therapeutic in response to a stressful time.
